Beyoncé and Jay-Z might be the most powerful power couple of all time since they started dating more than 20 years ago. Since then, the musicians became multihyphenates and built a billion-dollar empire. Oh, and they’re some of the most decorated music stars, too, as Bey is the most Grammy-awarded artist of all time.
On top of all this ^^^, they somehow found time to welcome their three children in between all the tours and Super Bowl halftime performances. As their 14-year-old, Blue Ivy Carter, and eight-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, take to the stage themselves, now seems like a fab time to introduce you to the Carter kids. Spoiler alert: They were born legendary.
Blue Ivy Carter
Born: January 7, 2012
Bey and Jay’s first child, Blue Ivy Carter, may only be 14, but she was pretty much an icon from day one. Or, before day one, if you count Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement at the 2011 MTV VMAs, where she revealed her baby bump after performing “Love on Top.”
Blue was born in New York City a few months later, on January 7, 2012. Since then, both musicians have shouted their eldest daughter out on most of their songs, including “Glory,” “Blue,” “Holy Grail,” “Jay-Z Blue,” and “Heaven,” among others.
Of course, talent certainly runs in the Carter bloodline, as she joined the cast of Mufasa, Disney’s live-action sequel to The Lion King. She played Kiara opposite Bey’s Nala, and naturally, the Grammy winner got emotional seeing her firstborn making moves in the entertainment space.
“Watching her voice come out in this character, I can’t believe that’s my baby,” Beyoncé gushed in a behind-the-scenes featurette. She has more to be proud of now, since Blue also started joining her on stage to perform “My Power,” “Black Parade,” and “America Has a Problem” on her Renaissance and Cowboy Carter World Tours in 2023 and 2025.
Hello, this video??? She’s like a mini Beyoncé in the making.
Over the years, the BeyHive has lovingly joked that Blue is not only Beyoncé’s manager, but that of the whole Knowles and Carter family. How could we forget her telling her parents to chill when they cheered at the 2018 Grammys? Or how she helped them keep their composure when they took home awards in 2024 and 2025? Blue, the icon you are!!
Rumi and Sir Carter
Born: June 13, 2017
The Carters expanded their family with twins (!!!) five years after Blue was born. On February 1, 2017, Bey broke the internet when she announced her second pregnancy with a stunning floral maternity shoot.
“We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over,” she wrote, in part. “We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes.”
Of course, our Virgo Queen Bey timed her announcement out perfectly, as she performed a medley of her Lemonade deep cuts “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” in a gorgeous golden goddess look, complete with her baby bump. Mind you, Rumi and Sir weren’t even born yet—and they were already part of a pop culture moment that would go down in history.
The twins were then born on June 13, 2017, and have remained relatively low-key for most of their childhoods. Like their older sis, Rumi and Sir have also received shoutouts from their parents across their musical catalogues. Their first mentions are included on both “LOVEHAPPY” and “BOSS” from Bey and Jay’s 2018 joint album, THE CARTERS. The latter includes a sweet message recorded by Blue: “Shoutout to Rumi and Sir. Love, Blue!” Spoiler alert: It’s so precious it hurts.
Of course, Rumi has followed in the footsteps of her musical parents as she stepped into the booth to sing on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter song, “Protector.” And, like Blue, she ended up joining her mom on stage to perform the song on tour. Please protect this baby at all costs!!
Oh, and ICYMI, Rumi and Blue also have a longstanding tradition of attending the Super Bowl with their dad, and this year was no different as they pulled up to Levi’s Stadium in style. A moment of silence for this serve, courtesy of the Carters:
But…what about Sir? According to Miss Tina Knowles, Rumi’s bro leans on the shyer side and tends to opt out of public appearances. When asked whether he’d join his sisters and parents on stage one day, Tina admitted to HELLO!, “Sir is very laidback and not into the spotlight, so I don’t know, but who knows? We’ll see.”
Because of this, pics of Sir are few and far between—but Bey shared this sweet snap with the twins from a family vacation in 2018.
Cool-cool-cool. That’s all you need to know about Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s equally iconic children!
